NEW: Discount Rewards with Advanced Targeting and Conditions

Running an automatic order discount through the reward bar used to mean maintaining it in two places — a Shopify Admin automatic discount for the math, and an EliteCart reward tier just to visualize progress. The new Discount (advanced) reward collapses both into a single setting, then adds the two things automatic discounts have always been missing: per-collection targeting and subscription-aware behavior.
The Update
Open any V2 reward bar and you'll see a new option under Add reward marked New: Discount (advanced). Unlike the legacy discount reward — which only shows progress toward an automatic discount you've set up in Shopify Admin — the advanced version configures the discount itself. Pick a percentage or a fixed amount, write the label that appears at checkout, and EliteCart applies it automatically when the threshold is reached. No Shopify Admin discount to create. No code for the customer to enter.
What's New
One reward type, fully configured in EliteCart
Choose a percentage or a fixed amount, enter the value, and write a custom label ("10% off your order", "$20 off orders over $100") — that's what customers see at checkout. EliteCart applies the discount automatically on every Shopify plan, no Plus required.
Collection targeting
Every advanced discount has an Apply discount to section with three modes:
- All products (default) — the discount applies to the whole order.
- Specific collections — include mode. The discount only applies to products in the selected collections.
- Exclude collections — exclude mode. The discount applies to everything except products in the selected collections.
The threshold is still evaluated against the full cart total, so a "$75 → 15% off cosmetics only" promotion still kicks in when the customer has $75 worth of anything in their cart. The filter only controls which line items the discount lands on.
Subscription-aware by default
Advanced discounts ship with "Don't apply this discount to subscription items" checked out of the box. Subscription customers often already have a recurring price break, and layering an automatic discount on top is a fast way to cannibalize lifetime value. If you do want your discount to apply to subscriptions, uncheck it — the choice is yours, we just picked the safer default.
Conditions, scheduling, and market targeting
Because Discount (advanced) is part of the V2 reward system, every per-reward superpower applies: conditions (customer login, UTM parameters, products or collections in cart, customer tags), per-reward scheduling (days, times, date ranges), and market-specific thresholds. Run a 20% weekend flash sale that only appears for VIP-tagged customers. Schedule a country-specific promotion that activates on a local holiday. Discount rewards now get the same treatment as gifts and free shipping.
Impact on Your Store
Previously, running an automatic discount through the reward bar meant editing it in two places. Every threshold change, every label tweak, every "actually, let's pause this" meant jumping between Shopify Admin and EliteCart. Advanced discount rewards remove that friction — everything lives in the reward bar where you already are.
Checkout behavior is deliberately simple: if a customer qualifies for more than one order discount, Shopify applies the single highest-value one. That matches what merchants actually expect from a tiered ladder like "$50 → 5% off, $100 → 10% off" — at $120, the customer gets the 10%, no surprising compounds.
Configuration
Navigate to Cart Designer → Rewards → Rewards tab and click Add reward. Pick Discount (advanced) (carries a "New" badge in the modal). Set your threshold, configure the amount and label in the Discount configuration card, optionally set a collection filter in Apply discount to, and decide whether to keep the subscription exclusion checked. Save, and you're done.
If you already have a discount reward pointing at a Shopify Admin automatic discount, it keeps working — the legacy type is still available as Discount (legacy). Switch to advanced when you're ready; there's no forced migration.
Why This Matters
Automatic discounts are one of the highest-converting promotional tools in a merchant's toolkit, but they've always been an all-or-nothing hammer. Advanced discount rewards make them surgical. Boost margin on one collection without touching another. Protect subscription revenue without sacrificing one-time orders. Run a campaign-gated or segment-specific promotion that shows up only where it's supposed to. And do it all from the same place you configure the rest of your reward bar.
